Allison & Jordon’s Cottage Paradise
As for most couples this season, flexibility was key. Whether it was the location, guest list, budget or date, there was a good chance one or more of these categories would need to be altered at least once. So, it seemed appropriate when Allison first reached out to me with an outline of her plans labelled as “wedding 2.0”, the new norm for this season’s wedding theme.
I met with Allison and Jordon, along with immediate family at their stunning Port Carling cottage just a few short weeks before the big day. I fell in love with the location the second I stepped onto the property. You can’t help but be drawn into a setting like this, with jaw-dropping views from every angle. At the base of their cottage was a boathouse roof offering the clearest of views and without a doubt a stellar backdrop of Lake Muskoka for their cottage inspired nuptials.
The wedding day was full of smiles, laughter, and blue skies! A larger group of guests were invited to the lakeside ceremony, followed by a laid-back reception. You know - the beer-filled canoes, Muskoka chairs and tunes kind of laid back! Guests departed shortly after to allow the bride & groom a chance to dine safely with their parents, grandparents, and siblings.
But before they got dinner started, the bride was itching to get out for a water ski. Not my average request of the wedding day (!), but we moved some things around in the timeline and sent her off to the lake while we all watched from the boathouse cheering her on! Upon return she quickly changed back into her wedding dress, smiling even bigger than before. Wow!
The dining tent was situated amongst the trees, one long table draped in greenery and an abundance of candles made it feel like an elevated and elegant family dinner. Over the meal, stories and memories of this very spot were exchanged, as they celebrated this new era in the setting of the family cottage that has been passed down for generations.
At the end of the day, I think these two ended up exactly where they were meant to be.
Cheers to one heck of a plan b!
